I was born in Malta, an island near Italy, in a devout Catholic family where we prayed the Rosary together as a family every day. That is how my devotion to Mary began. But my greatest Marian experience happened 19 years ago, when I learned that I was going to become the auxiliary bishop of Londrina in Brazil. I was nervous about the appointment and tempted to refuse it.
During a meditation, I heard a sentence from Mary in St John (2: 5): "Do whatever he tells you," pronounced at the wedding of Cana. Mary is the one who intercedes for us and asks us to do everything the Lord tells us. These words of Mary—which I have chosen as the motto of my episcopal ministry— helped me to overcome my fears and motivated me to accept the mission of bishop!
I would like Mary to be for me, for all of us, for your families, this example---the path that leads us to always do the will of Jesus!
May Mary, our Mother, the perfect disciple, the apostle of Jesus, always accompany us in our lives and bring us to Jesus so that we may do whatever He tells us.
