In 1951, a missionary from South America told this story:
"During a visit to our convent located in an important seaport, the guardian monk asked me to administer the last sacraments to a dying man. I went to a wealthy house and there I found a dignified old man with snow-white hair, who was a former admiral, lying in bed.
I had not yet closed the door behind me when the man politely but firmly asked me to leave his house. Despite this icy reception, I sat down near his bed and invoked the Mother of God, to entrust the sick man to her.
Immediately, he calmed down and let me take his hands in mine. We were able to pray together. Without any difficulty he abjured Freemasonry, made a general confession, and received absolution. Then he kissed me like a son.
When I returned to the convent, Father superior asked me: "So did he kick you out?" - "No," I replied, "he made his confession." - "That’s incredible! He kicked me out and Father hosteller as well! Despite all our efforts we could not do anything!" - "You must have forgotten that the way to Jesus is through Mary. You have, so to speak, worked alone. As for myself, I let the Mother of all grace do her work."
