December 17 – The first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Rome, Italy) - Saint John of Matha (d. 1213)

Only seen once every 794 years

Some Babylonian astrologers had calculated with astonishing precision the coming of the star of the Messiah. They were awaiting the birth of the "ruler of the world" from the year 7 BC, which is when the Virgin Mary was living in Nazareth!

In December 1603, Kepler, one of the fathers of modern astronomy, observed the very luminous conjunction (i.e. the meeting on a straight line) of Jupiter and Saturn in the constellation of Pisces. Through his calculations, he established that the same phenomenon (which provokes intense and brilliant light in the starry sky) must have also occurred in 7 BC. Then he discovered an ancient commentary on Scriptures by Rabbi Abarbanel recalling that, according to a belief of the Jews, the Messiah was to appear precisely when, in the constellation of Pisces, the light of Jupiter and Saturn would become one!

Now, for the Babylonian astrologers, this conjunction, which is only observed once every 794 years, occurred three times in 7 BC: on May 29th, October 1st and December 5th. They therefore considered the constellation of Pisces to be the sign of the end of time, that is, of the beginning of the Messianic era.
