Saint Joseph is for the Most Blessed Virgin an image of the Eternal Father's purity, who was meant to be the guardian, security, and protection of the divine Virgin, the most sacred and precious creature that ever existed after the sacred humanity of Our Savior. It is impossible to express in words all the respect he had for her. If God the Father chose this saint to give us an idea of his own perfections; if he made visible in him what was hidden in his essence from all eternity; if he chose him to make him an image of his own holiness, what idea of Saint Joseph must we form? God gave him his fatherly spirit in abundance; he substantially bestowed on Joseph his own divine perfection, his wisdom, prudence, love, and mercy. God made him the image of his beauty. Finally, since even the person of God the Father is incomprehensible in his being and works, he made Joseph in a sense invisible and hidden from our minds, and in my opinion, difficult to be fully known by mankind.
